CHAPTER ELEVEN
Tomorrow came and went. His promise to tell her everything turned into two days then three. They’d been wrapped up in one another making love each morning and each night after she’d return from work. Marley hadn’t made her move and he was beginning to think that maybe she’d had a change of heart.
On the third day, he’d had to call Danielle and tell her that he was leaving to go back to Atlanta for a few days for business. That was the truth but he also needed to think. They were having such a great time that he couldn’t bring himself to say the words he needed to say. It was evident that he was running out of time because every time he returned to his place Marley would simply shake her head in disgust. He could see that the woman was quickly running out of patience and she even seemed angry. Not with him, but with Danielle. If he didn’t know any better, he would’ve thought that Marley was jealous. His suspicions were confirmed on Wednesday morning when he walked through the door.
“Seems as though your little princess gets around,” Marley seethed and threw down a local weekly magazine opened to an article.
“What are you talking about Marley?”
“This, you idiot,” Marley said pointing at a picture of… Damn was that the white dress Danielle had on the other day after the first time they made love. It was. There in front of him was a picture of Quin and Danielle at that luncheon for his foundation. He was bent down next to her, his lips planted firmly on her face close to her ear and there was a smile on her face as if it was the best moment of her life. “You are being played. And by the very person you wanted me to stay away from. Isn’t that rich.”
“This,” Phin said tapping on the picture. “This is nothing. Danielle is doing some work for Quin’s foundation. I’m sure this was just him thanking her for helping.” He was sure this was true for her, but the look on Quin’s face in the picture seemed to say a lot more.
“Hmph. I wonder what kind of help she is providing.”
Marley was pissed to say the least and he knew it. She’d been very much into Quin when Phineas had warned him to stay away from her. She’d thought she was the one woman who would be able to reel him in and change him. She thought he would stop his womanizing ways for her. Phin had told her that she was young and naïve and had no chance with someone like Quin. There was no doubt in his mind that he would have used her to get what he wanted and moved on to the next. Now this punk was once again in his life and instead of going after his cousin, he was going after his woman.
My woman.
Yes, Danielle was his woman if he had any say in the matter.
